ABOUT ME

Hi! My name is Elizabeth (Liz) Bonilla.  I live in El Paso, Texas, and am a high school math teacher! I started my teaching career in February 1999, and have loved it since!  As far back as I can remember, I had always wanted to be a teacher.  I think it was because I loved school so much and had a lot of respect for my teachers that I thought that's what I want to do and be when I grow up.  It was probably in the 4th grade that I found out that I had a love for math and then started dreaming of being a high school math teacher.

I was fortunate enough to have been given the opportunity to begin my teaching career at my alma mater, Socorro High School, which is located in the small rural town of Socorro, Texas, where I grew up.  The town sits in the outskirts of El Paso, along the border with the neighboring city of Juarez, Mexico.  I taught there for nine and a half wonderful years!  I taught different math classes, ranging from Algebra 1 to Pre-Calculus, most of which were P/AP classes.

I now teach at Mission Early College High School--the first early college high school ever in the city of El Paso.  I earned my Master of Arts in Teaching Mathematics degree from the University of Texas at El Paso in May of 2006.   Though I did not have plans to do anything in particular with my master's degree when I went back to school to pursue it, I am now very grateful that I did, because I was able to transfer to MECHS in 2008 because I had a master's degree.  Like I tell my own daughters and my students--it's better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it!

Besides teaching and math, my passions are my family and fashion!  I enjoying spending time with my hubby (who is also a teacher!) an our three teenage daughters.  Among the things we love to do are eating out and traveling, especially to cities with amusement parks that have crazy fun rollercoasters!  I also enjoy putting together different outfits that I can wear to work.  Feeling fabulous just makes me have an even better day!  Sometimes it's not easy to put together outfits that are comfortable and fabulous, especially since I stand all period and move around the classroom constantly.

This is me in a nutshell!  I hope to be able to share ideas with other bloggers and other teachers via this blog.  Thank you for visiting! Hope you're having an awesome day!
